Court jails rapist, murderer in Niger

Magistrate Court in Minna, the Niger State capital, has reportedly handed a one month jail term to a man, Abubakar Maishai, who abducted and raped a 12-year-old boy identified as Aminu or to pay N30,000 fine.
Aminu lost his life in the hospital after he was sexually abused by Abubakar, a tea seller in Ngwayanma, Kontagora.
Abubakar had reportedly abducted Aminu from his parents’ house in March and held him hostage in his apartment. He was alleged to have severally had sex with Aminu for two weeks until the victim fell ill.
A police source informed journalist that Abubakar was arraigned at a Kontagora Chief Magistrate Court before the boy died on two counts of abduction and unnatural offences, to which he pleaded guilty.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Elkana James, confirmed Aminu’s death, saying the case has been transferred to the command headquarters in Minna.
He added that the suspect would be re-arraigned on a fresh charge of culpable homicide.
