Power Sector: Fashola Insists on Transparency

Minister of Power, Works and housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, says every loss recorded in the power sector will be tracked and accounted for henceforth.
The Minister stated this while speaking at the 14th Monthly Power Sector Operators’ Meeting, held at the National Control Centre, Oshogbo, Osun State.
The meeting, hosted by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, provided opportunity for operators in the power sector to discuss matters bothering on power generation, transmission and distribution.
Mr. Fashola said the bulk of the work in the power sector rests with the private business owners, noting that the responsibility for loss reduction, service efficiency, improved customer service and general access to power compliance falls on their shoulders.
The Minister warned that anyone found flouting the laws guiding the power sector would be sanctioned, including some consumers that engage in power theft.
He said the Federal Government was tackling liquidity challenges with the verification of DISCOS’ debt, stressing that unverified debts will not be paid.
According to him, the Federal Government has paid off over Three hundred and seventy four million Naira electricity bill owed by the Federal Secretariat in Abuja as a sign of commitment.
