Benue Releases N1.2bn for LG Polls
The Benue State government has approved the release of N1.2 billion to the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) for the conduct of the local government elections expected to hold in 23 council areas of the state.
The council election was rescheduled to June this year after BSIEC postponed the exercise last year due to lack of funds.
But the State Executive Council (SEC), presided over by its chairman, Governor Samuel Ortom, yesterday approved the release of funds for the conduct of the long overdue polls.
A statement by the supervising commissioner of Information and Orientation, Barr. John Otokpa Onoja, said the funds were to enable BSIEC commence early procurement of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials for the council polls scheduled to hold on June 3.
